6/3/2019 0 Comments Teeth Whitening MethodsPatients visiting our office often ask our staff for information regarding teeth whitening. The two most common questions are what kinds of teeth whitening exist and which type of whitening works best.
There are three types of whitening methods: • Professional whitening in our office • Professional whitening kit for use at home • Over the counter at home whitening kit The goal of each method is the same whiter, and brighter smiles for those using the treatment. However, the similarities (and effectiveness) between the different whiteners ends there. Take a closer look at your options to see how the varieties differ. • OVER THE COUNTER WHITENING KIT- The kit that you purchase from a local retailer has two features some people may find redeeming. This product is readily available, and it is affordable. However, we cannot, in good conscience, recommend any over the counter whitening kits. At best, you may see a shade or two of uneven whitening after using an at-home kit. At worst, you could bleach your gums or injure the inside of your mouth with the chemicals. • PROFESSIONAL WHITENING KIT FOR HOME USE- An at-home kit begins with a set of custom whitening trays. We make these from impressions of your teeth, so you are sure to have a great fit. We also provide the whitening solution and detailed instructions regarding use. This product will whiten your teeth. However, it is not as fast as the in-office method, and you usually need several applications to reach your desired result. • PROFESSIONAL WHITENING IN THE OFFICE- Whitening your teeth during a visit to our office is simple and painless. Some of our patients even say it is relaxing. In our office, we clean the surface stains from your teeth and then carefully cover your gums to avoid sensitivity. Next, we apply the whitening solution to your teeth and use a special light to help activate the whiteners in the solution. After about an hour, your treatment is complete. If you are considering whitening your teeth, feel free to contact our office to learn more about your options or to schedule an appoint for a no-obligation consultation with our cosmetic dentist to help you decide the treatment that is best for you.

11/2/2018 0 Comments Teeth Whitening TipsHere at our office, we see countless patients who would like to have brighter and whiter smiles. Fortunately, we have years of experience making patients’ dreams of whiter smiles into reality.
Our cosmetic dentist in San Francisco understands how much a brilliant smile means to you. Even though there are several different ways you can whiten your teeth, our dentist believes that when it comes to tooth whitening, professional guidance will ensure the best results. While there is nothing inherently harmful about using a drugstore brand of tooth whitener, the majority of our patients tell us that they were not happy with the lack of results or the uneven whitening from the over-the-counter whitening kits. We strongly encourage you to take advantage of our fast, long-lasting, and painless dental whitening in our office. Your results will be dramatic and beautiful. The professional strength hydrogen peroxide used in our office makes an enormous difference in the level of whitening you see. Most store brand whiteners contain a minimal concentration of whitening agent and are not able to deliver the same results a professional product provides. If you prefer to whiten in the comfort of your own home, we offer professional-strength whitening kits. These kits come with a custom-made mouth tray to hold the whitening gel close to your teeth while you whiten. Our patients occasionally see results slightly less dramatic than the in-office whitening treatments, but the level of whitening is typically comparable to that of the in-office whitening kit. Whether you plan on an in-office whitening or will use a professional grade kit at home, here are a few helpful ideas for you to get the most out of your whitening. • Have a cleaning and dental exam before you whiten. All products will work best when they are working on a clean surface. • Avoid red wine, cola, coffee, and tea to help your teeth remain brilliantly white. • Practice good dental hygiene, so your teeth stay healthy. Regular brushing and flossing are critical to keeping your teeth and gums in good shape. • Do not use tobacco products. Tobacco causes staining as well as increasing the likelihood of gum disease and tooth decay. A stunning smile is within your reach. Teeth whitening is a treatment that always seems popular. Our teeth whitening dentist in Torrance stays current on all of the best techniques so that our patients can get the best smiles in the shortest amount of time. We strongly recommend that our patients come to our Torrance cosmetic dentist if they want to whiten their teeth. While the drugstore kits used to whiten teeth at home are typically harmless, they lack the concentration of whitening peroxide to make a meaningful and lasting difference in the appearance of your teeth. Our office offers two options for professional whitening, in-office whitening and professional kits purchased for at-home use. Both options will whiten and brighten your smile. IN-OFFICE WHITENING- This is a fast and easy way to see the results you want in just one visit to our office. However, on occasion, patients who have a substantial build-up of stains on their teeth may require another visit to get the desired shade. The process of whitening is painless, and patients do not need anesthetics. To whiten your teeth, our dentist applies the peroxide gel to your teeth and then uses a specialized lamp to help the solution react quickly. PROFESSIONAL KITS USED AT HOME- To use a professional whitening kit at home, we take an impression of your teeth and make a tray that holds the whitening gel. You fill the upper and lower trays and place the mouthpieces over your teeth. You need to leave the trays in your mouth for the amount of time our dentist suggests. It will be necessary to repeat this process as often as needed to get the results you would like. Professional whitening is a simple and quick way to get the brilliant smile of your dreams. Call our office if you want to learn more about getting your teeth whitened professionally. 7/2/2018 0 Comments Teeth Whitening with LasersTeeth whitening is a fast, highly effective, non-invasive way to transform smiles that have become dark, discolored or stained. Aging naturally leads to darker teeth, but some kinds of foods and drinks can also stain teeth. Although teeth whitening systems are available just about everywhere, not all of them are equally effective. Our San Francisco cosmetic dentist often recommends laser whitening to ensure the best results.
Peroxide is the active ingredient in most teeth whiteners. Laser teeth whitening uses not just a powerful prescription-strength peroxide-based whitening gel but also laser activation to get teeth their whitest in a minimal amount of time. To begin. Our dentist uses a special rubber dam to protect the patient’s gums. Next, the bleaching gel is applied to each tooth. The laser activates the gel, and the oxygen penetrates into the enamel of the teeth. Once it reaches the stains, it will break them up so that teeth are left sparkling white. For the best results, a professional cleaning before laser whitening is recommended. This is done to remove any plaque, tartar or buildup that could interfere with whitening results. Laser teeth whitening can lighten teeth dramatically in about an hour. Teeth can be whitened five to eight shades or more, so when patients leave our office, they will have noticeably brighter smiles. Many people with healthy teeth and gums are candidates for laser teeth whitening. However, this procedure might not be right for patients with sensitive teeth, receding gums, pregnant women or children under the age of 16. A dental consultation is needed before whitening to ensure candidacy and discuss various options. Once their teeth have been whitened, patients can maintain their smiles with good dental hygiene. Brushing and flossing will keep teeth clean and free of stain-causing buildup. Avoiding staining substances can prevent new stains. Big offenders include coffee, soft drinks, wine and tobacco. Periodic touch-up whitening may also be recommended. Patients who are interested in teeth whitening should contact our office to schedule an appointment with our teeth whitening dentist in San Francisco. 6/12/2017 0 Comments Process of Teeth WhiteningThe teeth are supposed to be bright and white. Unfortunately, they can obtain extrinsic stains, and become yellowed or darkened over time. This is most often due to the diet and some lifestyle choices. Foods and drinks with intense pigments, such as berries and dark sodas, as well as smoking tobacco products, can lead to staining. Teeth whitening treatments can eliminate dental stains and brighten the teeth.
The process of teeth whitening is fairly simple. It will begin with our cosmetic dentist in North Hollywood cleaning the teeth and getting rid of accumulated debris and plaque. They will then apply a liquid or gel evenly to the teeth. This whitening agent is then activated by a light or laser, which usually remains on for a certain period of time. Each type of whitening treatment is different, and will require varying elements and timing. Zoom whitening, for example, involves keeping a laser on the teeth for three periods of fifteen minutes. Most whitening treatments result in a smile as much as eight shades brighter. Patients who wish to keep their new smile bright should avoid staining foods and drinks. The effects of teeth whitening can last years if properly maintained. Talk to our teeth whitening dentist in North Hollywood to learn more. For others, it can bring sensitivity and sharp, shooting pains called “zingers.” These pains are temporary, but while they last, they can be quite uncomfortable. Thankfully, there are ways that you can manage them and soothe the pain.
Zingers are caused by nerve irritation. The dentin, or inner layer, of the tooth contains microscopic liquid-filled tubules. These tubules are similar to pores, and when you whiten your teeth, the whitening agent can penetrate these pores, increasing blood flow to the tooth. This causes increased pressure within the tooth and triggers a sensation of pain or discomfort. Although the pain is not a sign of a dental problem, it can be quite uncomfortable. If you are prone to zingers, using a desensitizing toothpaste before and after whitening may help. You can also take ibuprofen or another OTC pain reliever before your treatment. Avoid eating or drinking anything extremely hot or cold after your treatment, and use a super soft-bristled toothbrush each time you brush. Not everyone experiences zingers, but if you do, you can be confident that for most people, they will pass in a few weeks and should be completely gone by a month after whitening. Call our dental office today to learn more or to schedule your whitening consultation. 1/18/2017 0 Comments Teeth Whitening During PregnancyIf you regularly use whitening products on your teeth, you may wonder if you can continue this practice if you should get pregnant. This is a very common question, which can be a very real concern for many expecting women.
So far, no studies have really shown there to be a risk to the fetus from the use of whitening products for the teeth, whether done by the dentist or at home with the use of over-the-counter whiteners. However, it is important to note that most bleaching agents in these products turn into hydrogen peroxide when mixed with water. This bleaching ingredient can cause sensitivity to tender gums. Hydrogen Peroxide can cross tissue barriers. It is not really known if this ingredient will reach the baby to do damage or not, so most providers claim that it is best to wait until your are done with your pregnancy before having your teeth whitened. If you really feel that you cannot wait to have your teeth whitened, talk to your obstetrician before seeing your dental whitening dentist in Los Angeles to get the okay. Some dental care providers offer various whitening options that do not involve bleaching. Teeth whitening is not a surgical procedure, but it does have aftercare. The routine consists mostly of watching what you eat and drink to avoid new stains, especially in the first 48 hours.
During this period, our expert in teeth whitening in Van Nuys recommends a “white diet”. This includes the following foods: • White Fish • White Rice • Pasta with White Sauce • Potatoes • Cauliflower • The following beverages are also on the list: • Water (still or sparkling) • White Wine • Gin or Vodka Naturally, avoid all foods and drinks that are heavy stainers. These include carrots, tomatoes, chocolate, butter, coffee, tea, and red wine. Drinking and smoking are not recommended during the first 48 hours. Do not drink clear soda, as the fizz can affect the whitener—not to mention, even decaffeinated soda is terribly acidic and highly caloric. After the first 48 hours, you can gradually cycle back to whatever your regular diet was, with the notion that eating a lot of heavy stainers will have you scheduling another whitening session sooner than you need to. Teeth whitening is also not rocket science, and you can maintain by brushing regularly with whitening toothpaste. For more about whitening aftercare, ask your cosmetic dentist in Van Nuys. |
